ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Dean Metz

Dean Metz 1935-2013

Dean Metz, who was voted into the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame in 1998, died on Monday July 1, 2013. Of the 320 members in the PCSHF, he is one of the few members who went in the hall as an athlete (basketball), coach (baseball--men’s & women’s basketball) and official (basketball & football).
"He is a legend among legends in Pima County sports history," said PCSHF president John Gleeson.

From the Arizona Daily Star July 2, 2013:

Metz, former ref and CDO baseball coach, dies at 78

Dean Metz, a UA basketball letterman in 1955 and 1956 who coached Canyon del Oro High to the 1976 and 1978 state championship baseball games, died Monday in Tucson. He was 78.

Metz, who graduated from Amphitheater High, was a football and basketball referee in high school, junior college and in the Western Athletic Conference for many years. He worked UA football and basketball games as timekeeper and statistician since the 1980s.
He was part of the first faculty at CDO, in 1963, and coached the Dorado’s baseball team for 16 years.
