The Pima County Sports Hall of Fame's 27th Recognition and Induction Ceremony took place on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 12:00 PM at The Doubletree Hotel at Reid Park at 445 S. Alvernon Way.

The Pima County Sports Hall of Fame's 23rd Recognition and Induction ceremony took place on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Holiday Inn, 4550 S. Palo Verde Blvd.

With the induction of this year’s class the Hall of Fame’s membership grew to 306.

Billie Harris, Class of 1993, began the program with an inspirational rendition of the National Anthem.

Hall of Fame President John Gleeson made opening remarks welcoming the people in attendance and thanked them for coming to pay tribute to and supporting the Class of 2012. He recognized the Executive Committee and the volunteers who for the past year have donated their time to help keep the Hall of Fame functioning.

Coach Jerry Kindall Class of 1994, gave the Invocation.

Master of ceremonies, Vice President Pat Darcy, Class of 1995 introduced the 16 Inductees after which they gave their acceptance speeches.

The program ended with Bill Roemer, Class of 2008, presenting the winners of the 50/50 raffle and door prizes.

The Pima County Sports Hall of Fame's 22nd Recognition and Induction ceremony took place on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at the Holiday Inn, 4550 S. Palo Verde Blvd.

12 individuals were inducted into the Hall of Fame:

With the induction of this year’s class the Hall of Fame’s membership grew to 290.

Billie Harris, Class of 1993, began the program with an inspirational rendition of the National Anthem.

Hall of Fame President John Gleeson made opening remarks welcoming the record 440 people in attendance and thanked them for coming to pay tribute to and supporting the Class of 2011. He recognized the Executive Committee and the volunteers who for the past year have donated their time to help keep the Hall of Fame functioning.

Former University of Arizona basketball coach Bruce Larson, Class of 2009, gave the Invocation.

This year’s recipient of the annual “Charley Thornton Award” was Desert View High School sophomore Sadiya Buta. She and her family overcame much adversity on their journey from the Middle East to the United States. Sadiya has worked very hard to become her team’s number one player on the school’s varsity girls' tennis team. Mr. Bill Thornton, Son of Charley, introduced her and presented her with a $500.00 check and an attractive plaque. She spoke and thanked everyone who was responsible for her receiving this award.

Master of ceremonies, Vice President Pat Darcy, Class of 1995 introduced the 12 Inductees after which they gave their acceptance speeches.

The program ended with Bill Roemer, Class of 2008, presenting four $100.00 winners of this year’s 50/50 raffle and ten people were drawn to win the ten $50.00 Circle K gas/food cards, which were given away as door prizes.

October 21, 2012 is the date for next year’s 23rd Annual PCSHF’s Recognition and Induction dinner at this same location.

The Pima County Sports Hall of Fame 21st Annual Recognition & Induciton Ceremony Dinner took place on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the Holiday Inn 4550 South Palo Verde Rd. Ten individuals were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

This brings the total number of inductees in the Hall to 278 members. Hall of Fame member Billie Harris started the festivities with a moving rendition of our National Anthem. Hall of Fame President John Gleeson made opening remarks, welcoming all in attendance and giving recognition to all the volunteers and Executive Committee who have donated their time and effort this past year. Hall of Fame member Coach Jerry Kindall then gave the invocation before the meal was served.

Each year, the PCSHF presents,  “The Charley Thornton Award”.  Mr. Bill Thornton, son of the late Charley Thornton, was introduced and gave a brief history of the award and what it represents.  This year’s Charley Thornton Award was presented to Mitch Sluder an outstanding football player from Sahuaro High School who overcame brain surgery his Senior year in high school. Mitch addressed the gathering along with Sahuaro High School Head Coach Scott McKee.

John Gleeson then gave a special award to the family of Christopher Moon. Christopher, who was an outstanding baseball player in high school was killed in action in Afganistan on July 13, 2010. Two members of Christohper's unit, 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, were in attendance.

The Pima County Sports Hall of Fame 20th Annual Recognition & Induction Ceremony Dinner was held Sunday, October 25, 2009 at the Holiday Inn, 4550 South Palo Verde Rd.  Twelve very deserving individuals were honored.

This brings the total number of inductees in the Hall to 268 members.  They have brought lasting fame and recognition to the Pima County Sports Community.  They date back to  J.F. “Pop” McKale who started his career at the University of Arizona in 1915 after a successful coaching career at Tucson High.  
 
The evening began with an inspiring version of our National Anthem sung by Hall of Fame member, Billie Harris.  Following that came some opening remarks by John Gleeson, President of the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame and an invocation by Deacon Leon Mazza, a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
 
During dinner, the PCSHF charity, “Reach out to the Community” awarded a check of $1000.00 to the Latin American Social Club.  The money will be used to support their annual “Grand Christmas Party”, where bicycles are given to underprivileged boys and girls from Tucson.          
 
Each year, the PCSHF presents,  “The Charley Thornton Award”.  Mr. Bill Thornton, son of the late Charley Thornton, was introduced and gave a brief history of the award and what it represents.  This year’s Charley Thornton Award was presented to Drew Donnellan.  Drew was paralyzed a few years ago while preparing for a gymnastic event.  Mr. Yoichi Tomita, his coach at the time of the accident, presented him with the award and gave a very moving speech outlining Drew’s struggles, determination and the courage shown in the face of such great adversity.  Drew is currently a student at the University of Arizona.
 
Next we were introduced to each of the inductees.  Gene Adelstein, who passed away in 1986 was represented by his son.  Fred Snowden, who passed away in 1994 was represented by his daughter, Stacey.  
 
The end of the dinner gave way to some other big winners:  
 
Mr. Warren Rustand won the auction for two football tickets to the Oregon vs Arizona football game on November 21, 2009.
 
The 50/50 winner, receiving $300, was Mr. Don Newton.  
 
The TEN WINNERS OF $50 Gas Cards were:  Preston Rittenhouse, Marc Janis, Lynn Goar, Bruce Larson, Ron Kwart, Roger Werbylo, Lou Pavlovich Sr., Cindy Riley, Bill Roemer, and Mitch Soley.
 
A big thank you to all the members of the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame, and to our supporters, advertisers, and friends for making this year’s banquet a huge success.
