Fred Stoftt

Inducted Class of 2001

Fred was a University of Arizona graduate with a B.S. in geology. He enlisted in the Arizona National Guard in 1928. Fred would climb the ladder from a Private First Class all the way up; to the rank of Major General in May, 1965. He was the Adjutant General from 1960 until his retirement in 1965. General Stofft was the recipient of the Arizona Medal of Honor in May of 1965 and in 1976 he received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the UA Alumni Association.

Stofft was a four-year letterman in football and track at UA and was one of the founding members of the UA Towncats, which was a booster organization for the school. He was responsible for the donation of much-needed athletic equipment to many local high schools and the University of Arizona. Stofft was one of the leading businessmen in the community for many years. He unselfishly offered his long-time support to enhancing youth sports in our community.
