Rene Zamorano

Inducted Class of 2001

Rene played baseball for Tucson High School from 1954-56 and was All-City and All-State each year. His amateur career reflects his interest in several sports. He won over 350 handball tournaments from 1963 to 1999. He has captured 12 national singles title and one world singles championship in 1997. He won five racquetball and 10 tennis tournament championships. Professionally, Rene played with the U.S. Professional Handball Tour from age 38 to 43.

He is a member of the U.S. Handball Association and has officiated on the USHA professional tour and many UMCA youth basketball games. He coached Little League baseball in Tucson from 1970-78; coached kids at the YMCA in racquetball and handball; and coached/taught individual members at the Tucson Racquet & Fitness Club. Rene has worked with children for more than 20 years at the YMCA and has been a board member for that same duration.

He also has been actively working with the American Cancer Society and United Way for more than 20 years.
