Bernie Perlin

Bernie began his regional and national sports broadcasting career in 1948. He broadcast play-by-play of college bowl games, and from 1949-1964 broadcast highlights of the Tucson Open golf tournament on the CBS radio network. He did play-by-play coverage of all the Cleveland Indians’ spring games in Tucson as well as radio play-by-play coverage of University of Arizona NCAA baseball playoffs and UA games in the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. In 1959 and 1960, Bernie’s television program, “Sports with Perlin,” was nominated for best Sports Program by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He did blow-by-blow sportscasting of professional boxing, including world championship fights on cable systems nationwide. For several years Bernie also did broadcast coverage of the Tucson Rodeo (La Fiesta de los Vaqueros).
