Joe Hernandez

Joe Hernandez played football at the University of Arizona (1960-61), where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He went on to ten years of professional football, mostly in the CFL, and was named All-Pro Defensive Back twice.
Joe worked for the Tucson Police Department in 1960 setting up a softball league on the south side of town and ran a recreational center in the Yaqui Village. He has been an active member of the Centurions (St. Mary’s Hospital) and was president of that organization in 1977, Vice President in 1975-76. Joe was a charter member of the Tucson Copper Facility Committee, Gift Committee, and was a member of the Selection Committee.
Joe is a member of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Southern Arizona Chapter. Under his leadership (first president 1995-97), annual sporting events raised funds to benefit student-athlete scholarships based on academic-athlete citizen achievement.
