Tom Black

Inducted Class of 2002

Tom lettered in basketball and football at Tucson High School (1937-1940) and at the University of Arizona (1940-1943, 1946-1948). He was on Collier’s All American Check List in 1946. He served as coach for youth football up to college level at the U of A. Tom was head football coach and player for the Clark Field Service Team in the Philippines in 1945. The team won the Southwest Pacific Championship. As head football coach for North Phoenix High School, he was named Coach of the Year (1950), and coached the Class “A” All Star Team to victory over the class “B” team at the Arizona Coaches Association 2nd annual game.

Black was also head coach for the Randolph Raiders Youth Football League in Tucson. He served as President of the U of A Towncat Organization in 1961; President of Tucson Chapter Arizona Alumni Club; Vice-President of Arizona Letterman’s Club; Chairman of Tucson Country Club Invitational Golf Tournament; and is a Charter Member of the Wildcat Club.
