Bob Rauh

Inducted Class of 1998

Bobby Rauh, a Tucson native, graduated from Tucson High School where he played baseball on Bud Doolen’s team for three years and was named to the All-Star team in 1952. He played freshman baseball at the University of Arizona in 1954 before becoming involved in intramural officiating with Bob Svob. In 1955, at the age of 21, he became a member of the AIA and started a career in officiating. Bobby began teaching physical education at Roskruge Junior High with Frank Ott as his principal.

Lee Carey also was a big influence as Bobby pursued officiating, along with Frank Sancet, Ralph Deal, Rip DePascal, Charley Jones and Bob Hart. Sancet gave him his first pair of black basketball pants, several sizes too large, but gratefully used for several seasons. Bobby has officiated basketball on every level from junior high to junior college and football from junior high to professional games in the USFL.

He joined the Pac-10 in 1978 as a back judge. The watch Bobby wears has roses on it from the 1989 Rose Bowl. Another treasured watch is from the first Copper Bowl here in Tucson. Bobby worked two years in the USFL and spent many years with the Rocky Mountain and Big Sky conferences. Bobby has made it a part of his agenda to devote time and effort making sure that all kids get the best officiating possible. To this end he now assigns and works games for the small-school districts of Sahuarita, Continental and Calabasas.
